Firing people sucks.

It’s not just uncomfortable. It’s a loss of investment in the employee, and a sign that you missed something along the way — possibly something that could’ve prevented the firing (or hiring!) in the first place. 

You will have to fire people eventually. But you can be proactive in reducing how many.
